A NOTE ON GENEALOGICAL SEARCHES AT THE EMIGRANT MUSEUM
Genealogy is an abiding interest in Norway. Throughout the country, individuals
and groups will be found who do serious and detailed genealogical research
within their particular municipality or local geographic area. In many
cases, they continually receive questions concerning Norwegian genealogy
from overseas.
We refer genealogical enquiries to The Hedmark Genealogical Society. For a fee, the members will answer questions and conduct
genealogical searches for customers throughout the world.
Upon receiving an inquiry,
our staff notes it and refers it to the society. When the genealogical work is done, the answer is copied for the museum
archives, and the originals are sent on to the customer. Thus, the records of all searches remain
in the museum archives. They are available to the original customer and his or her descendants or assignees.
